Hi, Laurent

is a VM on macOS Kubuntu 22.10 KDE 5.25.5 with 2GbRAM .
Here it rarely crashes...
QE on MacOS a little more and on Windows10 (VM 8GbRAM) many times and I don't use it anymore.

Last year I also sent you the report generated by OS Catalina 10.15.7 after the application crashed and you said that since you didn't have the simulation you couldn't intervene.

A sequence was certain (I had also posted a video):
When you are in edit elements you were about to exit and click on "save as" but then cancel and then "save". Two times out of three it crashed.

Then they happened randomly while I was working... Almost always while I was selecting and moving objects and I didn't understand why.
I have been working in Kubuntu for two months and I feel good even if I have forgotten many Linux functions after more than 20 years of not using it (unfortunately, electrical and PCB CAD were only on Windows platforms).

I have learned from experience to backup systematically so as not to lose my work.
When I make major changes: ctrl+c, ctl+v and systematically create copies which I then delete at the end of the week...

A good technique they use in CAD SW is to create some temporary copies (3), e.g. every 5-10 mins. which are updated in sequence (even PCB CADs often crash... and these temporary baks help a lot).
A cache mirror to resume crash recovery would be helpful in my opinion and let the backup do its job every 10-15 minutes. out of curiosity where do you save it?

HI

Hi, all

Since it crashes while working (with LINUX less frequent), I had to set the backup time from 10min, to 5, and now to 2min.
Unfortunately, continuous writing to SSD leads to premature disk degradation.

Wouldn't it be useful to create a mirror image of the project (similar to RAID or mirror) in RAM, and which could be reloaded after the crash?
It already does this after the crash, but many times it reloads on previous saves...

The blackout remains but it's not a problem, with UPS then...
Reload the last backup saved on SSD, ok.

cordiality.

Hi,

I have a problem with library elements.

I created a new element <Omron Varispeed L7> by modifying the Leroy M750 from the QE library and saving it with a new name, maybe I forgot to enter the "element label".
Maybe that's why it imports it into the drawing but doesn't recognize it as a "block"?
Reopening it in "edit element" mode it says "too many elements" (but the original does it too) and all lines, texts...

Is there any possibility recovery to edit the *.elmt file with kate to fix it without redoing all the work?

Thank you.

hi, Laurent

Seem a stupid question, but it's not.

Those who know CAD and use it often know how useful these separate commands are.
Some CADs use pan-zoom which automatically centers when the snapped object goes off screen, many allow you to set commands like "c/C", "i/I", "o/O" for center, zoom/in, zoom/reduce etc.
The pressed click is used to keep the object or the line hooked... the separate commands allow you to move from one area to another in a simple and fast way.

In QE, to create a link or move an object, with a high zoom (for detail), a movement of the mouse wheel takes the object out of video view.
So you have to zoom out to find it again and then work in full screen...

Ok, I get it, that's it.

HI to all,

Is there or is it possible to set a key (e.g. "c or C") that can center the video in the pointer while maintaining the zoom?
It would be an easy way to move within the diagram from one point to another (for example when drawing a line), when the zoom is up (detail grid).

in the attached screen the cad diagram is centered with the mouse position when I press the "c" key...

Hello Lorenzo

I found the solution!

I created an alternative "previous page reference" with the transparent polygon.
So placing it close to the connection point allows me to be practically invisible and you can put another label that refers to your specific sheet.
Modifying it in italics, or other fonts or even with a different color makes it unique and differentiates and I find it on its specific sheet.
Sheet 4:
- (2-E5 (black)) points to sheet 2 (or 1A in my case);
- (3-E6 (magenta)) points to sheet 3 (or 1B in my case);

Seems like a great solution to me.

Bye thank you.

Hi, Laurent

I had already thought about it.
I have already used this system by inserting multiple links on the same node that refer to different pages eg. like the feeder, without passing all the sheets as is done for the F.M. Power supply.
My idea was slightly different and aimed not to have two separate electrical connections but only one which then refers (with two different references) to the "same" page even if divided for product reasons.
Suppose what I say extends to an INVERTER system after that for logistical reasons I am forced to use either the Siemens or Omron or Mitsubishi product depending on market availability (it happens more and more often due to lack of products), put all the connections in parallel at the point of arrival it would certainly create confusion (already tested) while a single electrical connection with various link-labels referring to the specific page (Siemens, Omron or Mit..) depending on the devices mounted on the panel, would be more readable for me and free from false interpretations.
Unfortunately the "previous page reference" element doesn't allow for a colon alternative (and thus 2 references?) because it creates an error, so I'll use the current systems.

Thanks bye.

Thanks

Hi Laurent,

Attachment the original modified project,...
DO NOT look at the correctness of the design, it's just to make you understand...

The client has two similar sheet but with two possible different motors:
one with three-phase motor 2/13 (my 2A) and 3/13 (my 2B) with single-phase motor.
EVERYTHING else is the same!
But it can also be extended to other equipment such as for example the same system with Siemens PLC or the same system with OMRON PLC or other, which clearly has slightly different acronyms and connections...
Now then with the moria of components you have to provide for different compatibilities without changing the schematic every time..

What trick can I use to link both sheet 2 and sheet 3 to links 212 and 213 of sheet 4?

hi, Laurent

I'm not referring to the numbering of the conductors, it is correct that changing the sheet number or adding a sheet updates the connection, but in my case I want a "static numbering" of the conductors and elements for reasons of wiring standards.

The problem I have is that if in sheet 1 I have a link to sheet 5 (example), the link between the "previous sheet" (1) and the "next sheet" in sheet 5 (example) closes and I don't allow connect anything else.
If in the group of sheets (e.g. 20) I have to insert two sheets (sheet 1>> becomes 1A and 1B) which are almost the same but where, for example, the motor changes from single-phase to three-phase, the connections already foreseen on sheet 1A will not allow you to add a link to sheet 5 from sheet 1B that I added as well.
I'm currently "manually" adding texts on the added sheet as you see in the posted details, but I was wondering if there was a trick to allow the (01coming:arrow) link (to sheet 5 for example 02(going_arrow)) from both sheet 1A and from sheet 1B.

Hello,
I'm asking how can I bind two references on a single element referencing the previous/next sheet (e.g. 01coming_arrow).
Let me explain, sometimes it is necessary to provide 2 very similar diagrams where a module or for example the type of single-phase/three-phase motor changes.
In my case, the system provides for the possibility of using a 230Vac single-phase motor (small powers) or a 400Vac three-phase motor for higher powers.
In the sheet list I have therefore divided sheet (1) into (1A) (with single-phase motor) and (1B) (with three-phase motor).

Placing them both on the same sheet is not possible because it would create confusion and impossibility in the connections, for example circuit breaker, circuit breaker etc.
All the other sheets (e.g. 20) remain the same, therefore creating a different scheme code is harmful because for a subsequent change, for example to sheet "10" I MUST remember to do it AT THE SAME TIME also on the other scheme.
Create two separate labels on 01coming_arrow or 02going_arrow?

Thank you.

Hello,
I wanted to ask how can I change the order of cross reference tabs between Master-Slave links like:
Previous or next sheet, %F-%l%c, N° of wire, ...
If I set them at the next reopening they go back to the standard and you always have to enlarge the window.

Thank you.

Hi,

Resolved.
The texts in the variable cells, during the rotation, being the shorter side, did not enter inside.
He'll use a vertical page with proportionate cartouche for these purposes (layout, instructions) etc...

Thanks Laurent.

Hello,

What can cause the orientation of certain names to be incorrect when setting the title block of the page from horizontal to vertical? (%title, %projecttitle...)?

......

How do you insert multiple images or screenshots?

Grazie,
Ciao.

hi,

OK done.
I open with 0.8.
I saved it by renaming it.
So I opened it on .10 and he didn't give me the signal.
Thank you.

Hi, Laurent

with new AppImage: QElectroTech_0.10-DEV-r7778-x86_64.AppImage

when he opens the file that I had previously worked on and saved with dev 0.9 he always generates this message:

I opened it and overwrote it but it keeps reporting it.

I understand, thank you for the information.
I don't want to get into problems I can't solve...
I will adopt your advice.
Thank you.

ciao.

You are right. I will be switching to Debian soon... When I get more knowledge of Linux which I used for a while at least 20 years ago.
The Mac is just for other things. it is reliable as hw and works great with windows VMs (for cad and pcb).

ciao.

For these application I switched to kubuntu.
MAC is supportive only.
you are magical!

thanks

Hello Laurent
Thank you.

I had already downloaded several very compatible fonts in size but the problem is declaring it in the various files.
I solved on the schema with the "replace" command in Kate.
Example: "sans serif,10" change string to "Arial,9" , "all", done.
But the problem remains in the elements, I should do it for everyone and there are many!
It's not like you can make me a script that looks for the string in every file in the diresctory e.g. <114_connections>... replacing type "Microsoft Sans Serif, 12" in "Arial, 9 " or other character and replace it automatically in all files present in that directory ??

Bye thank you
Tiziano

Hello Lorenzo,

I had already done what was specified in point 1.
I had installed several fonts but the sans serifs were still larger in size, I also adopted the Microsoft fonts with windows and I can't find them in linux...
I managed to correct the schema using Kate and replacing Sans... and MS with compatible Noto or Arial. Arial which is also standard for everyone.
But I still have to edit all the elements part!

I managed to change the "specifiche.elmt" and *.qet schema but I don't know how to set the Arial standard and size to "elements".
Do I have to edit EVERY *.elmt file?
there are many!
Isn't there another system?

Hi, members

To avoid problems, I installed Kubuntu VM on Parallels MacOS.
The character set is different and creates graphical problems in the drawing and in the element library.
How can I globally replace fonts with similar sized ones on already completed projects?
Editing every single line of text or element in every single sheet is impossible!
Text original MS sans sherif 9 or 7. I can't find them for linux..

Replacing it with one of similar size in "configuration", how can you do a "live refresh" on the project sheets?

If that's not possible, is there a way to change the library and then "live update" the schema with the new library?

Thanks.
