Topic: QElectroTech 0.200.1-dev — observations and suggestions

Hello everyone,

I have been testing QElectroTech 0.200.1-dev, including its AI integration with GPT Codex, which works well in my setup.
The new interface and additional functions are very welcome, particularly the Summary and Nomenclature generation.
Congratulations and thank you to everyone contributing!
During practical work on electrical schematics, I have noted several possible improvements. Some options may already exist and I may have overlooked them; if so, guidance would be appreciated.

My test environment:
-    QElectroTech 0.200.1-dev, 64-bit
-    Build date: 26 October 2026, 05:44:12
-    Built and running with Qt 6.12.0
-    Compiler: GCC 16.2.0
-    Windows 10, version 22H2, build 19045

1.    Separate title-block text formatting
It would be useful to configure title-block text separately from the general “Other texts” setting, including text color and, if possible, opacity.
For example, secondary information sometimes needs to appear in a softer grey rather than pure black. Ideally, fixed labels and editable values could be formatted independently.
I have seen that element text already has a color property; this request particularly concerns title-block text and its default settings.

2.    Complete, reusable folio templates
QET already supports different title-block templates and default properties for new folios. Could this be extended to complete folio layouts containing the border, coordinate references, title block and other fixed page content?
The standard coordinate references appear along the top and left. I would also like references on all four sides, with configurable numbering, lettering, line thickness and colors.
In the attached project, we reproduced a four-sided border using separate graphical objects: numbers 0–9 along the top and bottom, and letters along both sides. Duplicating a prepared folio preserves this layout, but “New folio” does not automatically include those objects.
Ideally, we could save several complete layouts and choose between them when creating a page—for example, Cover sheet, Summary, Power circuit, Control circuit and Material list—with one selected as the default for new folios.

3.    Page margins for PDF export
The printing dialogue provides useful controls for page margins. I would appreciate equivalent controls when exporting directly to PDF, with independently adjustable left, right, top and bottom margins.
Ideally, these settings could be saved and reused for a consistent document layout.
If an equivalent export setting already exists, please point me towards it.

4.    More formatting controls for Summary and Nomenclature tables
The new “Add summary” and “Add nomenclature” functions are a substantial improvement. Having a single generated table is much more convenient than arranging several separate tables beside one another.
Saving separate Content and Display configurations is also useful. Within a single table, I would appreciate additional controls for:
-    Explicit widths for individual columns, retained rather than automatically redistributed.
-    Alignment for individual columns—for example, centered No. and Qty values, with descriptions aligned to the left.
-    Individual row heights where necessary.
-    Separate text and background colors for headers and table contents.
These settings would help produce compact, readable tables—for example, a material list occupying half a page, with narrow numbering and quantity columns and more space for descriptions.
The attached project includes an older arrangement of adjoining one-column tables and examples using a single generated table, allowing the approaches to be compared.

5.    Grouped BOM generation through the graphical interface
Using the standard field-selection controls, five identical pilot lights, H1–H5, appear on five separate rows, each with quantity 1.
A custom SQL query gives the result I prefer: one row with quantity 5, the description and article number, and the combined references H1, H2, H3, H4, H5.
Could the graphical configuration offer options to:
-    Group identical parts by manufacturer and article number.
-    Sum their quantities.
-    Combine their device references in one cell.
-    Add a sequential item-number column.
This is already possible through SQL, and the query can be saved and reused. My suggestion is to make this common BOM arrangement available through the graphical controls as well. If there is already a way to do this, I would appreciate an explanation.
Related printing and PE conductor discussion

I previously reported uneven conductor appearance during direct printing and the dense PE dash-dot pattern here:

Thank you, Laurent, for investigating and explaining the likely cause in the Windows printing path. Exporting to PDF and then printing that PDF remains a useful workaround.
Laurent also recommended a separate GitHub feature request for independently adjustable conductor dash and gap lengths. I will follow up on that separately.

Attached examples
-    Test1.4.qetz: the editable example project, including the custom border, circuits and material-list comparisons.
-    Test1.4_Export.pdf: a directly exported PDF for convenient viewing.

These suggestions come from practical use while learning QET.
I appreciate the work already invested in this excellent community-driven project and hope these examples are useful for its continued development.

Best regards,
Victor
