Topic: Copy and paste

Hi guys…yep another newbie…sorry for that but I’m struggling….i had a schematic sent to me that I’d like to edit. I want to copy a conductor or a cable…when I right click it I get multiple paste option pop up, not copy. I can click on other elements and copy and paste but not a single cable…. I just need to add the same cable elsewhere and I can’t find the cable in the Collections….maybe the author developed this cable himself and it’s not listed, I dunno but I should be able to copy it…no? Any help would be great thanks…Mike

Re: Copy and paste

Can you copy electrical connections in real life? nomicons/wink

QElectroTech is not a drawing program that you use to draw lines: you create electrical connections between terminals or clamps.

So you pull a connection from one terminal of an element to a terminal of another element.

Of course, you need to have a QET file to do this!
Other formats are not (yet) supported!

Re: Copy and paste

I had no idea…obviously…so if I can not select a type of cable to insert between two items, say a light bulb and a battery…how do I do it…or is that too big a question….

Re: Copy and paste

Do your elements have terminals?
(recognizable by the blue-red coloring – see screenshot)
Then you can draw a connection from one such connection to another.
Afterwards you can double-click the connection to enter the potential, line type, etc.

In the screenshot the view is "slightly" zoomed to two lamps and the mouse-pointer is hovering over a terminal. When the end of a terminal changes to a blue circle, you can click and drag to another terminal.

Wow…thank you…I’ll give that a go…

Re: Copy and paste

I have managed to insert the cables but I can’t find where to add the double lines…see pic….i need to put the double black lines on the new cable…I’ve looked in the collections but can’t find it….dunno what they mean but I think I should add them. This is for a solar installation and I’m added a second string of 8 panels.

I can’t paste a pic here, I’m clicking on the image icon and getting this  but no way to insert the image…

Re: Copy and paste

You want to work with a program you're unfamiliar with, but you don't seem interested enough to even play around (with a minimal circuit diagram or a copy of the original diagram) using the options the software offers?
I don't understand that!

You've already found the option to make the conductor two-colored: take it one step further and try out the options in the other tabs of the conductor properties!

BTW:
Do you know this part of QET-Website?

Re: Copy and paste

I disagree with your assessment of my attempts to solve this…of course I’m interested enough to play around with it…I spent hours trying to get to where I am so far….I’ve tried looking at the cable features editing menu box and couldn’t see anything relating to double lines crossing a cable….under conductor properties….you made a judgement about me that’s wholly incorrect…maybe if you weren’t so smug, you would just simply tell me how to do it and not preach…I don’t need lectures from anyone…just help!

Re: Copy and paste

Please look video howto section!

This should tell you how QET works, so that the developers don't have to waste time replying to you. Enjoy! nomicons/wink

Re: Copy and paste

You’re so kind…it’ll be like looking for a needle in a haystack…but at least I know what a needle looks like….and just how much time will the developers waste in answering my query? What is this forum for? If one knows how to use the software they don’t need this forum!

I trawled the internet seeking an explanation for a cable with crossed lined and eventually found the answer….try it yourself, it’s a rare commodity! When I discovered it’s meaning, I then back to QElectroTech and found the tab corresponding to the issue…after some clicking and unclicking of ticked boxes, I succeeded in adding two lines to the cable….

….no thanks to this forum or at least the far from helpful people responding to my query….one of which I believe to be a moderator….they don’t deserve the title having inadequate teaching skills….
