I would be humbly grateful for an explanation of the meaning (resolved value) of the formula %sequf_1 as applied to conductor auto-numbering?

Formula %sequ_1 returns a numeric serial series which continues without regard to the folio.

Formula %sequf_1 returns a numeric serial series which is specific to the folio.

Exactly.
The autonumerotation works well, but heavy to use and not very flexible. I plan in (distant) future to completely rework it to make something much more powerful.
